I have no explanation for it, really, other than the fact that I was writing a lecture about sports fandom at the time of writing, and was reading a lot about baseball. And Steve isn’t imagining it, the strike zone has in fact changed in size many times since the 1940s. Its true dimensions are known only to individual sports fans with vested interests.
Also, I’m not sure if I recommend following Tony’s advice.
